5. On the Way to Pila Pila |
Jim Cantlay and Trevor Freestone on the way to Pila Pila (just nearby here) for a swim. On one occasion as we were passing through the glade, a mild tremor - guria - set the trees ashiver, and a coconut plopped to earth. The most dramatic guria we experienced while in the College was at the time we were being consulted - (us ?!) - re the establishment of a University in the Territory. The committee chairman was speaking when the classroom we were in bucked & shook. The committee's stenographer uttered a shriek of alarm and Fred Kaad, a member, said, "Well obviously Rabaul's not a good location for expensive buildings!"
