16th Annual PNGAA Adelaide reunion lunch, 30 October

Barry Taverner will speak on Return Journeys. Barry became a Cadet Patrol Officer in 1967, and served in Western Highlands, Wabag, Eastern Highlands and Central. He left PNG in 1973.

In 1987, as Senior Technical Officer of the SA Centre for Remote Sensing, he travelled to port Moresby to present demonstrations of the CSIRO's Micro Brian computer software and a completed mapping project of forested lands using Landsat satellite imagery. He visited again in 1988 to trek the Hagen-Sepik route, and again in 1989 to take photogrammetric images of the landslide at Ok Tedi. In 1996, he was asked to join Oilmin Field Services in Mount Hagen in a FIFO capacity often doing hitches of 8 or 9 weeks straight. He is still employed by Oilmin as a Field Manager.

Samarai and Milne Bay Reunion, Wollongong, 11 and 12 November

At the Novotel Wollongong Northbeach and City Beach Function Centre.

You will be met and greeted at a Welcome Evening at the Admiral's Room in the Novotel on the Friday. You will have dinner and dancing in the Ocean Room at the City Beach Function Centre on the Saturday.

The Novotel Wollongong Northbeach has made rooms available at a special price if you mention you are part of the reunion. We have also checked out a number of accommodation options, so contact us for information.

KIAP: Stories behind the medal, screening at Queensland State Library, 12 November

From 2.30 pm to 6 pm, with the film screening at 2.45 pm, Auditorium 2, Queensland State Library, Grey Street, South Brisbane. Following the screening, there will be a Q&A session to answer questions about a Kiap's role in pre-independence PNG.
